The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given the county’s sanitation districts its highest award for operation and maintenance excellence in the Western region in 1986, officials said.
The EPA chose the districts’ facilities in Fountain Valley as the top plant among 3,000 large advanced treatment plants in Region 9, which includes Arizona, California, Nevada, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Islands, district officials said.
The award was presented this week at the agency’s regular monthly board meeting by EPA senior manager Jim Thompson, who said the facilities were chosen for their “excellent record of compliance with permit regulations,” as well as operations and staff training policies.
