MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s national food production and distribution agency, Conasupo, said Friday that 1987 levels of food output will surpass by 20% those of 1986.
The increase was noted mostly in cooking oils, margarine, wheat, corn and pasta, the agency said.
Conasupo also said its 1987 distribution of food at discount prices will total 1.2 million tons this year.
“Conasupo thus stresses the government’s commitment to maintain adequate regulation over the production of basic goods in order to protect the purchasing power of the population,” the statement said.
By the end of the year, Conasupo said it will have produced nearly 150,000 tons of cooking oil, 540,340 tons of margarine, 288,119 tons of wheat and 16,837 tons of pasta.
