Weather officials posted snow advisories for many Northern states Friday as falling temperatures chilled the nation’s northern tier.

Warnings of gale-force winds were posted over much of the Great Lakes region and along the central Atlantic Coast.

A snow warning was posted for the northeast portion of Upper Michigan, where up to 18 inches of snow had already accumulated. Snow accumulation elsewhere ranged from six inches at Boulder Junction, Wis., to three inches in northern Ohio and two inches across northern Indiana.

A heavy snow warning was posted for northwestern Pennsylvania, while snow advisories were posted for parts of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, New York, West Virginia and the Maryland panhandle.

A marine storm warning was posted over the southeastern coast of New England, and a winter storm watch was posted over eastern Maine.
