Soviet officials dropped a demand they made of the daughter-in-law of Jewish activist Josef Begun, clearing the way for Begun’s emigration to Israel, his son said. Boris Begun said officials informed him they no longer demand that his wife, Yanna, receive a statement from her parents saying they have no financial demands on her. Such a statement is a normal part of the Soviet emigration procedures. The elder Begun, who received permission in September to emigrate, said Oct. 25 that he would delay his departure because his daughter-in-law could not go. His son said that “the whole family now has permission to leave” for Israel. Boris Begun, 23, and his wife have two small children.
