Chad said its troops clashed with Libyan forces near the Sudanese border two days ago, the first reported skirmish since the two countries agreed to a cease-fire Sept. 11. A communique broadcast on Chad radio said five Libyan soldiers were killed when a Libyan column tried to penetrate into Chadian territory. The column crossed into Chad from Sudan’s Darfour province, which demonstrates Sudan’s complicity with Libya, the statement said. Chad and Libya agreed to an Organization of African Unity-sponsored truce after a four-week flare-up of fighting over a disputed border area known as the Aozou Strip.
