Race car driver Bill Elliott and two pilots escaped unharmed when a Georgia Air National Guard fighter and a U.S. Air Force jet collided over Jefferson County in Georgia.
Elliott of Dawsonville, Ga., who had done a television recruiting commercial for the Air Force Reserve, was being given an orientation ride when the collision occured, a Georgia Air National Guard spokesman said.
One of the planes, an F-15 belonging to the Georgia Air National Guard, crashed in a wooded area about 50 miles southwest of Augusta, but the pilot ejected safely. The Air Force plane, an F-16 with Elliott as a passenger, made it safely back to Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Ga.
