PASSINGS : Helen G. Scott, French Arts Figure

Helen G. Scott, 72, the former director of public relations for the French Film Office in New York who introduced the New Wave and other French directors to the American public. She was the force responsible for presenting the work of such directors as Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, Jacques Tati and Alain Resnais to U.S. audiences. During World War II, she broadcast for the Free French from the Congo and later was press spokesman for Chief Justice Robert Jackson at the Nuremberg war crimes trials. In 1962, she translated the Alfred Hitchcock-Truffaut interviews which became a respected book on film making. In Paris on Friday of a heart attack.
