The government of Bangladesh ordered a one-month ban on rallies and the carrying of arms near its Dhaka headquarters as opposition parties called for new demonstrations starting Sunday. An earlier government order against rallies and protests in the capital was violated by the opposition as it launched the so-called “Dhaka siege” Nov. 10 to demand the resignation of President Hussain Mohammed Ershad over alleged corruption and harassment of political leaders and activists.
