Defense Minister Humberto Ortega said the Nicaraguan army has bombarded Contra camps in the north with rocket and artillery fire for weeks, killing or wounding dozens of the rebels. Most of the fighting, he said, occurred in Jinotega province near the border with Honduras. The offensive has “been an important strike against (the Contras’) morale and sense of security in those areas near the frontier,” said Ortega, brother of President Daniel Ortega.
