Irish ‘Border Fox’ Arrested in Gun Battle

The most wanted man in Ireland, an Irish nationalist guerrilla known as the “Border Fox,” was arrested today in a gun battle at a police roadblock in which another man was killed.

Police said Dessie O’Hare, 29, was wounded in the shoot-out at a roadblock at Urlingford in County Kilkenny, south of Dublin.

Irish police suspect O’Hare of involvement in up to 27 murders.

Police said O’Hare and another man were stopped at the roadblock. Shooting broke out and the passenger in O’Hare’s car was killed. The extent of O’Hare’s injuries was not disclosed.

Police believe O’Hare was the leader of a gang that kidnaped the son-in-law of an Irish millionaire and cut off his little fingers with a chisel and hammer.

The victim, Dublin dentist John O’Grady, was released earlier this month after a shoot-out in Dublin with the kidnap gang.

Five people, including O’Hare’s wife, Clare, have been charged with unlawfully detaining O’Grady.

The Dublin government, embarrassed by three bungled attempts to trap the kidnap gang during O’Grady’s three-week ordeal, had offered a $160,000 reward for the arrest of O’Hare.
