Playing the Lottery: Should Jackpots Be Large or Small?

Share

I have to disagree with Aumiller, who doesn’t want large jackpots. The only reason I play is for the chance to win one of those very large multimillion-dollar jackpots. Many of my friends feel the same way. I prefer eliminating all jackpots under $100,000. Winning $5 or $10 is a waste of my time.

However, I also know a lot of people, who, like Aumiller, aren’t interested in large jackpots. This is especially true for older people who don’t want to wait 10 or 20 years for their winnings.

I would like to suggest a compromise, since the Lottery Commission wants two lotteries a week. How about one of the weekly lotteries be a minimum of $100,000 and the other be a maximum of $100,000? That way there would be a game for everyone.

I would also like to know why the jackpots over a certain limit are paid over 20 years. Absolutely no one I have ever talked to can figure out why they do it that way. I say if you won the money, they should pay it all out at one time.
