Mexico, 4 Others Seek Funds to Study Mayans

TEPOTZOTLAN, Mexico —
Five Latin American countries plan to seek financing to increase the study of their Mayan culture, Mexican Education Minister Miguel Gonzalez Avelar said Friday.
Speaking at a news conference in Tepotzotlan, 40 miles northwest of Mexico City, Gonzalez Avelar said the five countries will apply for grants from the U.N. Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization in order to carry out the project. The other nations are Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras.
