South Korea Defense Minister Chung Ho-yong told his military commanders that North Korea is expected to send terrorists into the South to disrupt next year’s Seoul Olympic Games and that “if the situation permits, the North will not hesitate to start a full-scale war.”

That followed Japanese and South Korean reports that Japan’s ultra-radical Red Army may be planning terrorist acts during the Olympics.

Meanwhile, a North Korean newspaper said that if South Korea would not use the summer games to continue the separation of the Korean peninsula “we would be willing to participate in them by forming a North-South unified team or go to Seoul. . . . “

The president of the South Korean Olympic Committee, Kim Chong-ha, said: “With the games less than 300 days ahead, it is too late to form a single team with North Korea. But we will extend our full support in case the North send its own team to the South.”
