Real Concern for Homeless

Irvine Temporary Housing Inc. is facing such a financial crisis it may have to close its doors by Dec. 15. So much for the “current ongoing program of assimilating the homeless in a decentralized manner” referred to by Pat Sabetta in the letter published Nov. 15.

Like so many other Irvine residents, Sabetta’s concern seems to be a smoke screen. The silent message is always the same. We care but only the privileged must be allowed to live in Irvine, The Planned Perfect Image Community. I remind you of the lawsuits filed when the developmental disabled bought homes in Irvine communities.

Do the homeless sleep now in ideal conditions away from barking dogs and high noise levels? I suggest judgment shouldn’t be passed on the proposed animal shelter conversion until “Irvine residents have walked a mile in the homeless’s shoes.” A person without a home may prefer such shelter to a car, the cold ground or the sidewalk.
