The authenticity of at least eight Rembrandt paintings will be called into question when an art research committee publishes its findings, ARTnews magazine said. It named eight works in Britain scrutinized in the 20-year Rembrandt Research Project as “Landscape with Coach,” “Christ and the Woman Taken in Adultery,” “The Adoration of the Shepherds,” “A Franciscan Monk,” “An Old Man in an Armchair,” “A Bearded Man in a Cap,” “Hendrickje Stoffels” and “Margaretha de Geer.” The New York-based magazine noted that Rembrandt shared a studio with another artist and the two worked together closely. It added that because of the study, “Portrait of a Bearded Man Standing in an Archway” will be catalogued “attributed to Rembrandt” for auction at Sotheby’s, and its appraised value has fallen from $4 million to no more than $1.2 million.
