Police in northern Jerusalem fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Jews protesting the showing of movies as a violation of the Sabbath. Scattered clashes also were reported in central Jerusalem. Ultra-Orthodox groups have demonstrated almost every weekend since August, when some theaters began screening films on the Jewish Sabbath.
