West Germans lapped up episodes of “Dallas” and “Dynasty” for years, but now German TV viewers have their own soaps--dealing with everything from extramarital affairs and homosexuality to drug abuse. “Schwarzwaldklinik” (“Black Forest Hospital”) appears to be the country’s prime-time version of “General Hospital,” dealing with the professional and private dilemmas of doctors, nurses and patients. It’s watched by 18.3 million people--half of the nation’s TV audience--each week. Most recent addition to the soap parade: “Waldhaus” (“House in the Forest”), about a backwoods restaurant and the family running it. The country’s Der Spiegel magazine, however, had less than glowing reviews: “It’s possible the show’s audience will soon be staggering around mindlessly, with a horrible stomachache.”
