Angola

Your editorial (“Taming New Violence,” Nov. 14) hit the nail right on the head about Angola, but didn’t go quite far enough with the scenario.

True, if the U.S., South African and other governments would withhold support from the UNITA resistance, Cuban and Soviet troops could withdraw (for reassignment to the next African country on the priority list of the Soviets?).

The indigenous government would be free to pursue the usual genocide against its opponents, and to establish the usual economic reforms.

Shortly, Angola would be another basket case like the other Marxist states of Ethiopia and Madagascar.

To help, the Soviets would send bullets and advisers, and we would be allowed to send grain to feed the starving.
