West Covina : Bonelli Park Plan Opposed

Share

The City Council has voted to oppose the county’s scaled-down proposal for commercial development in Frank C. Bonelli Regional Park, contending that the project would still be too large and would take up valuable open space.

“The county is proposing a commercial development almost the size of Disneyland,” said Councilman Forest Tennant.

The county wants to raise revenue to help pay for maintaining the park by building a lodge, chalets and restaurants. The project initially was to include an amphitheater, a tramway and retail outlets, but was scaled down after neighboring cities and citizens groups complained.

The City of San Dimas, which surrounds the park, has voted against the scaled-down plan, as has the Diamond Bar Municipal Advisory Council.
