Nearly half of the American adult public (49%) exercise or take other steps on a daily basis to keep healthy, according to a Gallup Poll, reflecting a level of interest in fitness and health that has held steady in the last decade after a dramatic surge. The daily efforts to stay fit are remarkably uniform throughout the nation. Though somewhat more prevalent in the West (53%) than the East (42%) and among people age 18 to 24 (62%) and college graduates (61%), people of all ages, occupations, regions and education levels are consistently close to the national average.
