Double Standard in Relationships

Share

The heading for the Times editorial should have been “Triple Standard” to include not only our “quasi-silence” about human rights violations in China and our protests about abuses in the Soviet Union and South Africa, but also our quasi-silence about the animal-like treatment of Palestinians by Israel.

Accounts by Times correspondents speak almost daily of outrageous actions and denials of Palestinian human rights by Israel, from kangaroo court murders to a casual attitude about government-sponsored spying on the United States. Undoubtedly, the worst aspect of our triple standard is the fact that Israeli injustices are for the most part paid for by the United States.
