Boris Begun, the son of leading Jewish dissident Josef Begun, said today that he is giving up his fight to retain his Soviet citizenship upon emigration and that the family will leave for Israel in January.

Boris, 32, had wanted to remain a Soviet citizen so he could return to Moscow to visit relatives. But he said the Supreme Soviet had turned down his appeal. Josef Begun, 54, who last month received an exit visa after a 16-year struggle, had refused to leave until his son’s problem was sorted out.
