Gorbachev’s ‘New Thinking’

Gorbachev’s observation that the arms race is the most important obstacle standing in the way of our relations with the Soviets is false. He knows very well it is European and Middle Eastern conditions.

Let the Soviet Union pull out its military and war materials from Eastern Europe and retire within its own land; let them cease moving to the Indian Ocean through Afghanistan; let them come to the United Nations with clean hands. The U.S. could then be free of its burden to help protect nations caught in this vortex of danger.
