Elegance prevailed at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel on Friday night.

Everything about the South County Cancer League’s “Noel d’Elegance” reflected the theme: crystal top-hat centerpieces, a sumptuous meal and the raffle of six ornate Christmas trees, all decorated by interior designers.

More than 400 party-goers celebrated the holidays while helping a good cause, netting $75,000 for the American Cancer Society, $30,000 more than last year.

It was difficult for guests to pick a favorite tree. Designer Renee Saunders’ “Silver Fantasy” tree glistened with silver balls. Bonnie Brown’s “Gifts of the Magi” reflected the opulent offerings of the three kings. “A Romance of Christmas Lace” by Janette Dooley featured ornaments made of European lace. Jean Swearingen used a European clown doll to accent her “Holiday Surprise.”

Teri L. Christie highlighted her “Sugar Plum Fantasy” with tiny pixies. And Martha Gresham and John Jahr’s whimsical “Up, Up and Away, Mrs. Claus Has Her Day” had Mrs. Claus taking off in a miniature hot-air balloon.

After dining on Cornish game hen with bourbon and red currant sauce and a chocolate hazelnut bavarois terrine, the trees were raffled, guests bid on auction items and danced to the music of the Bobby Noval Band.

Event co-chairwomen were Debbie Allen and Renee Saunders. Ann Dahlberg is league president.
