Chrysler Corp. plans to plead no contest to charges by a federal grand jury in St. Louis that its employees acted illegally in disconnecting odometers on as many as 32,000 cars, and has agreed to reimburse car buyers, it was reported. A copyright story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said the nation’s No. 3 auto maker had reached a tentative agreement on the fraud charges and, in a separate civil action stemming from the charges, has agreed to make restitution of at least $16 million to owners of the cars to resolve current and potential class-action suits.
