Local News in Brief : 6 Trailers for Homeless
- Share via
The leading critic of a proposal to place trailers for the homeless at a Harbor City housing project says she is “delighted” with a new plan to install only six trailers there, not 12 as originally planned.
“I think it’s a very fair compromise,” said Jan Hughes of Harbor City. Hughes, together with a resident of the Normont Terrace housing project, circulated a petition against the trailers, which will accommodate homeless families at housing projects around the city.
The plan to halve the number of trailers at Normont Terrace is the result of a turnabout by Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores. Flores originally agreed to the 12-trailer proposal but recently changed her mind due to community opposition. City housing officials have said that they will follow Flores’ wishes.
