Miledi was awarded the medal at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington after delivering the Luigi Galvani Award Lecture, entitled “Transplanting Receptors From Brains Into Oocytes,” which are the egg cells of frogs.

The Galvani award is named after the 18th-Century Italian neuroscientist who first demonstrated that muscle activity is controlled by electricity.
