A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in New York has authorized Manville Corp. to put $150 million into an asbestos health trust that becomes operational when the company’s Chapter 11 reorganization plan takes effect. The fund will be earmarked for asbestos-related health claims. Manville filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in August, 1982, because it faced billions of dollars in personal injury claims stemming from plaintiffs’ alleged exposure to Manville asbestos products.
