Obituaries : Garson Meyer; Founder of Council on Aging

Garson Meyer, who helped found the National Council on Aging and pioneered programs for the elderly, died at the age of 91 on Sunday.

Meyer advised four Presidents as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and was well known among state and national health officials.

“He was one of the pioneers in this field before we even knew there was a field,” said Jack Ossofsky, president and chief executive officer of the National Council on Aging.

Meyer, a native of Rochester, attended Cornell University and the University of Rochester. He worked as a chemist at Eastman Kodak Co. for 42 years. He is survived by two daughters.
