‘Pornography and Police Power’

Share

Thank you for your enlightened and reasonable editorial on pornography and Archbishop Mahony. I agree wholeheartedly that the Catholic Church should encourage its members to reject pornography if the church leaders decide it’s an important condition of their faith.

And I even more wholeheartedly agree that we do not need, nor should we permit, the police to get involved in one more hysterical witch hunt into the sexual reading or viewing habits of adults. It is a gross waste of money and time.

But I disagree that no one likes pornography. Lots of people like it or it wouldn’t sell. I, for one, find it boring after about five minutes, as do many people over the age of 19, but I have also found it, on occasion, erotic, exciting and stimulating.

Sorry, Archbishop Mahony, but dirty books are here to stay.
