A reputed Colombian drug lord known as The Black Pope was arrested near Miami after entering the United States on a phony passport, federal agents said. Benjamin Herrera Zuleta, a leader of the Medellin cocaine cartel that is believed responsible for 80% of the American cocaine supply, was arrested in a traffic stop in Davie, Fla., arranged by Drug Enforcement Administration agents who had been following him for a week, said DEA spokesman Jack Hook. Herrera, who is in his early 40s, is expected to be extradited to Las Vegas, where he was charged in 1985 with smuggling and trafficking nearly 200 pounds of cocaine, Hook said. Arrested with Herrera was Raul Santiago, 31, of Miami Lakes, Fla. Santiago was held on charges of concealing a federal fugitive.
