A U.S. arms control delegation examined and photographed components of two Soviet radar sites that U.S. officials contend violate the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow said. The embassy issued a statement from the head of the team, Manfred Eimer, assistant director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, to news organizations in Moscow. The statement said the U.S. team, accompanied by Soviet officials, examined components of radar equipment outside of Moscow and near Gomel, about 125 miles north of Kiev. “An assessment of the information collected by the team will be made following the team’s return to the United States” later this week, it said.
