Piper Advises Plane Is Safe to Fly Again

Piper Aircraft Corp. on Tuesday advised owners of its Piper Malibu airplane that they may fly the plane again, but only after they comply with service bulletins issued by the engine manufacturer.

Earlier this month, the private aviation company urged owners to ground the airplane after a series of unexplained engine failures. The problem may have resulted in a fatal crash in Long Beach on Nov. 29.

Piper spokesman Earle Boyter said the company recommends that owners comply with four service bulletins issued by the engine’s manufacturer, Teledyne Continental Motors of Mobile, Ala., “before the aircraft is returned to service.”
