Michael Deaver

The jury system has once again acted against the corruption of the politically powerful. Michael Deaver may in his heart believe he is innocent, but it seems clear from the facts that he sold his governmental influence to the highest bidder and then lied to a grand jury about it. It is really paradoxical that Deaver who is an apostle of “law and order” should expect to be found innocent of stealing millions from the Treasury (perjury was the charge, but ripping off millions was Deaver’s calling card) while young ghetto kids go to state prison for street sales of cocaine. While the equation is not perfect, there must be a return in this country to equal justice under the law. Stock swindlers, con men, corrupt politicians and perjurers must not be treated differently.

I commend the jury for doing its job.

There may even be a detoxification program for Deaver in prison.
