An East German trawler rescued 14 Pakistani crewmen aboard a listing freighter after it got into trouble in a gale 500 miles west of Ireland, the British coast guard reported. The Panamanian-registered Island Queen was carrying timber to Liverpool, in northwest England, when its cargo shifted in the gale, its engines failed and the vessel developed a 22-degree list, officials said. The crew was taken aboard the Ludwig Renn, the first ship to reach the scene after the Island Queen’s captain put out a distress call, coast guard officials said.
