Teaching Courses on Vietnam War
The story “Lessons of Vietnam in Curricula” by Larry Gordon, Times education writer, is indeed one of the best of its kind I have ever read.
Truly it is heartening to know that war courses on the Vietnam tragedy are popular now, the “in” thing. But--as to be expected--even though many others are mentioned, neither Tom Hayden nor Mrs. Tom Hayden are. How can this be? Why?
As a veteran of World War II (11th Airborne Division, Pacific Theater) with a son who was twice in Vietnam, earning the Navy Achievement Medal, I can’t help wondering how so many people, including reporters, are so afraid, reluctant (whatever it is) to mention this high-profile actress who did so much to hurt morale of both POWS and men still in combat.
Any answer to this would be appreciated. We are waiting. My son and I--and a few hundred thousand others.
