Unnamed sources within the state-run television network in Bangladesh told reporters Sunday that the network has blacklisted 11 prominent actors because they had called for Bangladeshi President Hussain Muhammad Ershad to resign. The United Cultural Forum, an opposition-backed cultural group, said Sunday that a network executive confirmed that three TV dramas were postponed until “all actors confirm their participation.” The executive spoke on condition of anonymity. Other government officials declined comment or could not be reached. According to the Forum, the 11 actors were banned from appearing in any television programs as of Saturday. The forum, an alliance of major cultural groups, said more than 200 radio and television performers have refused to work for the past six weeks to support the anti-Ershad campaign.
