Pepperdine, Unbeaten at Home, Entertains Connecticut Tonight

Pepperdine’s basketball team, 6-4 overall and unbeaten in three home games, will play host to Connecticut (6-2) tonight at 7 at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.

The Waves are coming off a 96-75 loss to Tennessee in the title game of Tennessee’s Volunteer tournament, an event in which Pepperdine’s Levy Middlebrooks and Craig Davis were named to the all-tournament team.

Pepperdine is shooting 56.1% at home. The Waves are led by Tom Lewis, who is averaging 22.7 points a game; Middlebrooks is averaging 17.1 points and 11.4 rebounds, and Davis is averaging 16.2 points.

Earlier this week, Connecticut won its own Connecticut Mutual tournament for the first time since 1983. In the opener, the Huskies edged Hartford in double overtime, 96-94. In the title game, Connecticut came back from an 11-point deficit in the second half and defeated Princeton, 49-46.

Cliff Robinson, a 6-foot 11-inch forward, scored 72 points in the two tournament games for Connecticut and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. He is is averaging 20 points and 8.8 rebounds.
