I am one of those who have been subjected to a seemingly endless string of requests for aid for this cause and for that cause, each one claiming to be more significant and more deserving than the rest. There are so many good and noble causes and so much need.

My solution has been to narrow my focus and help out one particular group; a group whose ideals match my own and which can make use of my particular talents. Both I and the group and, hopefully, the world as a whole benefit.

I would thus suggest that one solution to “compassion fatigue” is to channel one’s flow of compassion in a particular, personal manner, thus making it into an integral part and practice of our lives.
