The Trevi Fountain, one of Rome's most famous landmarks, will receive a waterproof basin as part of a $830,000 facelift due to begin this spring.

Maria Luisi Cardilli, superintendent of the city's antiquities, told reporters on Thursday that most of the restoration would be performed on marble statues that form the backdrop to the imposing fountain.
