Accused Hijacker Apparently Hangs Self in Mexico Jail
Marco Ganem Velazquez, who said he hijacked an Aeromexico DC-9 airliner in a “moment of rashness,” apparently hanged himself with his own sweater in a cell in the Nuevo Leon State Penitentiary here early Friday, federal District Attorney David Rosas said.
A prison guard found Ganem’s body hanging in his cell in the prison infirmary, where he had been the only prisoner, Rosas said.
Ganem, 37, was charged in Second District Court here Thursday with violence against a general communications route in connection with the hijacking, which ended here Tuesday with his apprehension.
