Home Builders to Hold Annual Meet in Dallas

Share

An estimated 60,000 home builders from across the nation will convene in Dallas Friday for the 44th annual convention of the National Assn. of Home Builders.

The housing industry is expecting another good year in 1988, but not as good as last year. Michael Carliner, an NAHB economist, predicts that 1.49 million housing starts will be be made this year, a 9% decline from the estimated 1.64 million starts in 1987.

Apartment construction will be hurt by high vacancy rates, Carliner said, while single-family home builders and apartment builders alike will feel the effects of today’s higher interest rates.

More than 170 educational programs and seminars will be offered at the convention, and more than 1,000 manufacturers of building products will display their wares in the Dallas Convention Center’s 18-acre showroom.

The convention runs through Jan. 18.
