Bonny Warner raced to a U.S. track record, and Frank Masley narrowly missed breaking his own mark in the second qualifying heat to determine the U.S. Olympic luge team at Lake Placid, N.Y.

Warner’s first run of 38.24 seconds beat the 1983 U.S. track record of 38.26 set by Erica Terwillegar in the World Championships. The international women’s track record is 37.70, set by East German Steffi Martin in 1983.
