Former Dallas Cowboy John Niland was sentenced to two years in prison for making false statements on a loan.

U.S. District Judge Barefoot Sanders ordered Niland to appear at a federal institution Feb. 11. Niland also was sentenced to five years’ probation and was ordered either to pay $384,000 or forfeit his Dallas house to Darwin Deason, a Dallas businessman who bought the house in a foreclosure sale but was unable to take possession of it.

Niland’s attorney, Cheryl Wattley, said she would appeal the case to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

In September, Niland was indicted on charges of making false statements about his residence on a 1983 application for a $300,000 business loan from Continental Savings Assn. near Houston.
