Rent Control and Housing Problems in the Southland

Share

In its editorial “The Long Arm of Washington” (Jan. 11), The Times is in agreement with the Reagan Administration’s thinking that rent control is counterproductive, it tends to discourage new investment in rental housing and tends to lead to deterioration in the quality of rental housing.

For The Times information, new construction has been exempt from rent control since October, 1978.

As to the deterioration of the quality of rental housing that is due to the piggish landlords who cannot get enough.
