Ed White, who played 17 seasons in the National Football League and was the San Diego Chargers offensive line coach since 1985, has retired from coaching according to a statement released by the Chargers Monday.

“Ed advised me that he wanted to retire from coaching in order to spend more time with his family,” Al Saunders, Chargers coach, said in the statement.

White lives in Julian, 60 miles east of San Diego, where he has occasionally helped the Julian High School football team as an assistant coach.
