Rig Count Declines

HOUSTON —
The number of working rotary oil rigs in the United States fell by 48 to 1,054 for the week ended Jan. 15, but remained higher than the total of 886 rigs that were in operation a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. said.
The rig count is a widely watched barometer of drilling activity.
