“Here’s another ‘accident’ from old D. J. (Chicken Wings Pacifica) McClary,” reads the letter that accompanied this recipe. McClary shared her Chicken Wings Pacifica recipe, one of our long-time favorites, with Times readers many years ago.

D. J.’S ACCIDENTAL PORK CHOPS

6 to 8 pork chops

1/4 cup butter or margarine

3 tablespoons olive oil

20 large mushrooms, washed and sliced about 1/4-inch thick

1/4 cup sweet wine

1/2 cup bottled teriyaki sauce

1 (10 1/2-ounce) can white sauce

In large skillet brown pork chops in 2 tablespoons melted butter and 2 tablespoons oil. Remove chops from pan. Add remaining butter and olive oil to pan drippings. Add mushrooms and saute until golden brown. Add wine and teriyaki sauce and simmer a few minutes. Add white sauce and stir until smooth and completely blended. Place half the pork chops in 3-quart casserole and pour over half of sauce. Layer remaining pork chops and pour remaining sauce over. Bake at 350 degrees 1 1/2 hours or until chops are tender. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
