Rupert Murdoch sued the U.S. government in an effort to overturn a Federal Communications Commission ruling that would force him to sell either the New York Post newspaper or a New York television station. Murdoch’s News America Publishing Inc. said in a filing in the U.S. Court of Appeals that it was the victim of discrimination under an unconstitutional law passed by Congress that would force the media baron to choose between the two properties in New York. Murdoch faces a similar choice in Boston between the Boston Herald and a local television station. The suit was filed after the FCC denied a Murdoch request for more time to comply with cross-ownership rules that prohibit the owner of a television station from also owning a newspaper in the same market.
