Santa Fe Southern Pacific posted net earnings for 1987 of $373.5 million, contrasted with a net loss of $137.9 million in 1986. For the fourth quarter, net rose to $113.7 million, compared to a loss of $261.8 million in the same period a year earlier. The Chicago-based company said the results reflect substantial charges for railroad restructuring costs and a gain on the sale of Kirby Forest Industries during the 1986 quarter.
